Jeevitha Charithra

అవ్వ జీవిత చరిత్ర తెలుగులో వినండి

Her Holiness Bhagavan Sri Mahayogi Lakshamma was an Avadhoota of the most sublime order. She was born in a poverty-stricken Dalit Family in a small village called Moosaanipalli, seven kilometers from Adoni. The fortunate parents were Mangamma and Bandeppa.

Being a born Avadhoota, she was roaming about, stark naked, mumbling apparently nonsensical words. People could not understand her spiritually elevated condition and they thought that she was mad. Believing that marriage will cure her of her madness, her parents got her married to a young man named Mareppa. But, she demonstrated her real spiritual status to her husband and came back in her usual condition to her father’s house the same night. Marriage and worldly pleasures cannot tempt an elevated soul like Mahayogi Lakshamma.

People who pelted stones at her and inflicted injuries on her, came to a miserable end quickly. Her curses immediately destroyed them. This shows the power of her words. God never forgives such wicked people who cause suffering to saints who are dear to Him.

She finally reached Adoni along with a group of people who were coming to attend the weekly fair at Adoni. She settled down beside a rubbish dump by the street side. She continued to roam about naked, eating whatever she could lay her hands upon. Because of her living beside a rubbish dump, she was called Thotti Lakshamma (In Telugu Thotti means rubbish dump) and Thikka Lakshamma because of her apparently mad behaviour (Thikka in Telugu means lunatic).

Miracles performed by her

She cured cancer of the husband of a poor woman called Gowramma, with her very words. Such was the power of her speech. The grateful Gowramma gave her the meager amount of an anna (one sixteenth of a rupee) as an offering. But Lakshmammaavva’s grace turned the poor woman into the owner of sixty acres of land in a short time. Even a small offering made with a pure heart will be richly rewarding.
Many childless women were blessed with children, after eating the blessed fruits given by her.
By her strange and apparently meaningless gestures and acts, she used to indicate, the coming natural disasters and calamities. Such was her omniscience.
Once there was a terrible downpour in Adoni for many days and the drains were overflowing. People came to the conclusion that Lakshammavaa would have been dead in the floods. But she surprised everyone by safely coming out from an overflowing drain unscathed.
She demonstrated “Khandayoga” also. One night People found her body in broken pieces and thought that somebody murdered her. But the next morning, she appeared as usual and surprised everyone.

Some noble persons like late Sri Rachoti Veeranna, late Tumbalamgutti Lakshmaiah, late Ballekal Narasappa, and late Manne. Ramsingh etc. who recognized Avva as a spiritually elevated soul worshipped her and were duly rewarded with the worldly and spiritual blessings.

Late Sri Rachoti Ramaiah performed Avva cart festival even before she attained Samadhi and thus became a blessed person.

Avva SamaadhiShe entered Jeeva Samadhi on 16th of May 1933 (Vaisakha Bahula Sapthami, according to the Hindu Calendar) and since then that day is being observed as a festival day and special poojas are performed. Cart festival is also performed on that day with pomp and grandeur. Many developments like the commissioning of a silver chariot with loving offerings from devotees, the temple getting a covering with silver foil, golden covering for the idol and many valuable gold and diamond ornaments have taken place during the recent past. The silver Cart (Rajatha Ratha) is being used for the Cart Procession for the past thirteen years. The temple has been attracting devotees from far and wide. A massive Granite Arch, (in the Alur-Adoni Road) welcomg the devotees has been inaugurated on 08-June-2017.

Temples for Avva have been constructed in Moosaanipalli, Avva birth place and many other places in and around Adoni.

Devotees believe that she is always ready to come to our rescue in hard times and grant boons, if we pray to Avva earnestly and with purity of heart.
